“The Traitors” star Wilfred Webster recently faced a terrifying ordeal when two burglars armed with knives broke into his home.

Webster, a finalist in the debut season of BBC One’s popular series “The Traitors,” recounted the terrifying experience on Instagram. On a Thursday morning, he was lounging in bed with headphones on, watching Netflix when he was confronted by balaclava-clad burglars who had smashed open his front door.

“I jumped off the bed in shock and he ran downstairs and out the back of the house via a window. I ran out of the front door and stood in the garden in shock and the pair of melts walked around the corner and I spotted them,” he wrote. “One of them shouted ‘stab him’ and then ran at me with a big knife. Quickly I ran back into my house, shut the door and phoned the police.”

Webster, also known as Wilf, mentioned that the police arrived promptly, and he regretted not charging his doorbell camera out of neglect. He was grateful that his neighbours, who were more proactive with their door cameras, could provide footage to the police and identify the car the burglars left in.

“I’ve been through a lot in my life but I have never felt so scared. My house is my safe space and to have someone break in and take away that safety is horrible. I’m even posting this picture using a VPN out of fear,” he said.

According to Webster, the police believe the burglars entered by breaking the panelling on the back door and squeezing through, then exiting through the back window.

Following the incident, he is looking to upgrade his security measures and never wear noise-cancelling headphones again. He also advised people to ensure they charge their doorbell cameras, emphasising the importance of keeping one’s house safe.

Many fans promptly responded to the star’s post with supportive comments. One expressed relief that he was safe after such a terrifying experience, while another conveyed sympathy and advised Wilf to take care of himself and seek support if necessary.

The attempted burglary at Wilf’s house, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) guidance, falls under the category of aggravated burglary. This classification applies when suspects commit burglary while possessing firearms, imitation firearms, weapons of offence, or explosives.

However, the police have yet to provide an update on the individuals involved in the incident. Authorities continue their investigation into the incident, seeking to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the harrowing break-in.

Keep homes safe

According to the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW), there were approximately 1.5 million incidents of “neighbourhood crime” in the year ending September 2023. This type of crime includes robbery and specific theft offences such as theft from the person, domestic burglary, and vehicle-related theft. This figure remained unchanged from the previous year.

This underscores the importance of maintaining tight security measures. According to a Which.co.uk survey, the top five deterrents for burglars are having a burglar alarm system (71 percent), owning a dog (71 percent), the presence of people in the property (52 percent), CCTV (46 percent), and outdoor/sensor lights (21 percent).
