Manchester City star’s mansion targeted in break-in, £1M worth of jewellery lost
The family of Manchester City star Jack Grealish pressed panic buttons on Wednesday as burglars targeted his new £5.6 million mansion in Cheshire.
About ten family members – including fiancée Sasha Attwood, his parents, grandmother, two sisters, and brother – were watching Grealish’s televised match against Everton when they heard noises upstairs and frantic barking from the dogs. The shaken group quickly sought cover in the unfamiliar mansion.
The 28-year-old footballer and his partner purchased the modern seven-bedroom mansion set on 24 acres last year but only moved in just before Christmas. Despite tight security measures and perimeter fencing surrounding the luxurious home, burglars broke in and took £1 million worth of watches and jewellery.
Police rushed to the scene, concerned about a potential hostage situation. Five police patrol cars arrived by 10 PM after responding to a call at 9:50 PM.
On Wednesday night and the following day, law enforcement scoured the area around Jack’s mansion in an attempt to apprehend the gang. Despite extensive searches aided by police dogs and a helicopter, no suspects were found.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police mentioned that no arrests had been made yet, and investigations are still underway. Neighbours were advised to secure their doors and remain indoors.
According to one neighbour, the police knocked on their door and asked if they could enter the land to search for the gang before heading towards Grealish’s land.
“They said there was a man on the loose and that we should lock our doors then they drove off,” the unnamed neighbour said.
“A police helicopter was circling for about 20-30 minutes and shining a red light down but then it flew off.”
Upon learning the news, Grealish hurried back after bagging a 3-1 victory to support his distressed family. The following day, he was seen inspecting the pathways next to the property.
“The family are really shaken. The gang took a lot of watches and jewellery,” said a source in an exclusive interview with The Sun. “Initially, they feared they could be facing a hostage situation or worse.”
The source mentioned that no one suffered injuries, but there was a considerable amount of panic and terror as they felt vulnerable. The property’s vast size made it difficult for anyone to hear anything initially, especially since it was the family’s first visit.
Series of break-ins
The burglary is the most recent incident in a series of break-ins targeting several multi-millionaire Premier League stars.
Previously, West Ham captain Kurt Zouma’s property in Essex was targeted shortly before Christmas. Burglars took £100,000 in cash and jewellery.
One year earlier, Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling had to return urgently from the World Cup following a break-in at his residence in Surrey. This unexpected announcement came just a few hours before he had to play against the African Cup of Nations champions, Senegal.
In September 2022, intruders forcefully entered the £3.5 million mansion in Cheshire belonging to former Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, his fiancée, Perrie Edwards from Little Mix, and their young son. The burglars took various expensive items, including jewellery and designer handbags.
These incidents are stark reminders for high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) to prioritise safety and security measures within their residences. It underscores the importance of robust security systems, surveillance, and vigilance for individuals in the public spotlight or with considerable assets.
It is time to invest in a comprehensive security system that goes beyond simply locking your house. Security firms like Marengo can assist with this by assessing the vulnerabilities in your property’s security, devising a customised security plan suitable for your property, and deploying security guards to be on standby.
